Episode VIII: Raid

Date: 37:6:16 - 37:6:20

The Imperial Star Destroyer Eviscerater looms menacingly over the fourth moon Annjo III.
"EV324 to Eviscerater"
"This is Eviscerater, go ahead"
"Sir, the settlement is deserted and looks to have been for quite sometime"
"Copy that. Standby"
The Eviscerater's comms operator turns to the captain who is standing behind him. "Orders sir?"
"Recall the scouts. Navigation, plot us a course to our next lead. All hands prepare for hyperspace."

Standing on a raised circular pad, Captain Killian gives the dark visage before him a slight bow, "Lord Vader. There appears to be no sign of the Rebels in Annjo system and we are currently preparing to jump to Jultar system to follow up another lead"
"I see...continue your search captain" As the image before him disappears, the captain visibly relaxes and mops his brow...

As the Eviscerater moves to its jump point, two cylindrical objects launch from its hanger bay and fly off in different directions. Moments later there are two small flashes and both objects disappear...

The Alliance is growing more and more desperate with each passing day. They are on the run, with the Empire biting at their heels each step of the way. Death Squadron prowls the Galaxy in the hunt for them. Probe droids scour the Galaxy looking for hints of a Rebel base. Something must be done to alleviate the pressure. They turn to the Hammer and her crew for an answer...

Kethan and Major Saxs both received a message from Alliance command requesting that they concentrated their efforts on the Probe droid supply chain. On informing the command staff it was suggested that they should raid a manufacturing facility and cripple the supply chain at its very root. After some intensive research by Samic, it was decided that they would hit Danth Artifice's factory on Woor. The factory is responsible for the production and assembly of the control boards and hardware interface equipment for all Probe droids.

The Hammer landed at twilight on Woor a few days later. Chaide and Kal, dressed in Imperial Officer uniforms, smuggled the rest of the team out in cargo containers onboard two Imperial Skiffs. The team members concealed in the containers were Kethan, JD, Samic, Krib and Zulah.

Once they were about half way to the factory the team pulled into a nearby wood and hid the containers and one of the skiffs. They then proceeded to a cliff that over looked the factory from behind and spent a night and a day observing the activities in the fenced compound.

Amongst their observations they noticed that, in addition to Danth's own security personnel, the compound also housed an Imperial rapid deployment base, which was support by at least a squad of stormtroopers. During this time Zulah also managed to decrypt the comm signal that they where using and determined that there were at least fifteen different voices over the channel.

Happy with the odds, Chaide decided on the best point of entry into the compound and selected his team - Kethan, JD and Krib. Whilst Chaide and his team sneaked into the compound, Samic would provide fire support in the role of a sniper with Kal spotting for him, and Zulah would monitor communications and provide additional fire support for those left on the cliff.

Around 3.00am local time, Chaide and his team abseiled down the cliff face and sneaked towards the centre of the rear fence. On close inspection they found that the steel wire fence was not electrified. Thankful for their good fortune, they proceeded to cut a hole in the fence.

With the help of Samic, Chaide and his team managed to dispatch the first three perimeter guards as they circled the rear of the factory. Chaide and his team then sneaked across to the back of the factory and bypassed the security fenced compound at the back of the factory. Whilst Chaide was trying to break in to the factory via a fire door, the remaining perimeter sentry was drawing near to his fallen comrades when Samic, Kethan and Krib brought him and his two dogs down in a hail of silenced weapon's fire. Within moments Chaide had the fire door open and all four perimeter guards where down and not an alarm had been raised.

As Chaide stepped into the brightly lit room, a man dressed in a white jacket looked up from his control panel with a quizzical look on his face. Chaide very nearly shot him, but his morals took over and he just tied him up and left him in the corner. The rest of the team soon followed him into the room, which looked to be the power plant for the factory.

Kal, on seeing the team enter the factory, commed them and asked how they planned to empty the building. It was Chaide who answered, "We'll set off the fire alarm". As the fire alarm rang, the team hid in the power plant whilst the factory personnel evacuated the building.

On hearing the alarm go off, the two Stormtroopers guarding their base started to head towards the factory to see what was going on. That idea was soon put to a stop by Samic and Zulah. As the two Stormtroopers fell, the door to the base opened and Kal fired a missile in through the door gutting the base and the remaining Stormtroopers.

Meanwhile, the team inside the factory started planting charges on various manufacturing machines, structural pillars and warehouse goods under JD's guidance. They encountered a few security personnel, but they were quickly dealt with. Once the charges were set, the team evacuated the building taking the tied up power plant operator with them. They then dumped him off outside the compound and proceeded to climb up the cliff to meet up with the others.

Once they reached the top of the cliff they turned just in time to see the factory explode and collapse in on itself. The team then headed off back to the Hammer the same way they arrived.

Captain's Log:

<<37:6:20/NOV.DRA/CAP.LOG/>>

It was an odd feeling, it almost took me back to our campaign on Cuirass II, standing there cradling a slugthrower, listening to Chaide's quiet tones handing out instructions as we studied the droid mainboard factory.

Something of a departure from what I had envisaged when we took the commission from the Alliance, but we work for them, so they call the shots. I must confess, I haven't seen JD this happy for weeks, finally a chance to liberally sprinkle thermite as we were tasked with the destruction of the factory. A textbook operation went as smoothly as I could have hoped. None of the assault team suffered so much as a scratch, no civilian casualties (inspired decision by Chaide to trigger the fire alarm) and as close to total destruction of the factory as could be hoped. Sure, the Imperials are likely to have it back in production within a year, but we've bought the Alliance some breathing space, apparently Probe Droids have been a serious problem over the past few weeks.

I take the black propaganda that the Imp's are putting out as something of a backhanded compliment, and also as a warning. We've hurt them and they won't take this lying down. More than ever we need to stay sharp.

More disturbing news directly from Imperial Command - after our "tragic losses" in association with Convoy 1037, we have been requested to rendezvous with one of Admiral Ridol's top advisors for a debriefing session. I always knew that our cover wouldn't last forever. Perhaps we can use it one last time…

-Captain Kethan Falor
