K-5 Assault Ship

As the war between the Rebel fractions and the Imperial forces in the Aur sector escalated the Moff of the sector called on Nova Shipworks to produce a fast, light combat ship. This ship would have to have the heavy hitting potential for combat against capital ships. Nova provided three variants of already available ships: the K-1t gunboat, the K-1a gunboat, and the K-3m corvette. These were created as stopgap measure while the real ship intended for the Moff was being designed, the K-5 Assault Ship. This ship was Nova's first crack at the pure combat ship.

The K-5 is a fast and manoeuvrable with a weapons package superior to almost any ship of its size. The K-5 has ten of Nova's improved turbolaser cannons, with more power than the ones used on pervious starships, mounted mostly in the front and with respectable amounts covering the rest of the ship. Three concussion missile launchers provide long range hitting power for the K-5. A tractor beam projector and four laser cannons round off the weapon systems on the K-5. The K-5 also boasts an improved hull over the K-3 Corvette, a platoon of marines, and an improved sensor array like the one used on the K-3v Light Carrier.

The K-5 Assault Ship turned out to be as successful as the K-1 and K-3 series. The K-5 soon found its way into skirmish and pursuit lines throughout the Tri-Sector Region. A special variant, the K-5o, with a powerful sensor array was also used in some recon lines. The Empire realised the power of these ships and forbade Nova from selling these ships on the open market. However, the Rebels did come into possession of some of these ships through defections and combat captures.
