Aimis originally developed the Ranger two years before the blockade of Naboo by the Trade Federation, as a long-range patrol craft. To fill this role the Ranger has a pair of NovaBurn engines giving it good speed and excellent fuel efficiency. The Ranger is also equipped with a very efficient Class I hyperdrive. These factors combined give the Ranger an incredible range for its size. The Ranger is equipped with a powerful sensor array and a pair of medium laser cannons.

The Ranger has a crew of two, a pilot and co-pilot, but one person may operate the vessel with little loss in performance. It is also capable of carrying two passengers when needs be.

The Ranger has a single deck, which contains the cockpit, a small lounge, an autochef station, a pair of small quarters each containing a double bunk, a refresher, an engineering station, the boarding hatch and a small cargo hold.

Sales of the Ranger were very good when it was first released. Government customs agencies and the Jedi Council were the main customers, although a few independent scouts also purchased some. However, with the onset of the Clone Wars the volume of sales decreased dramatically and the fall in sales eventually led to Aimis ceasing production of the Ranger.

There have been recent unconfirmed rumours that Aimis is considering revamping the Ranger and re-releasing it on the open market.
