Captain's Log:
<<37:4:32/NOV.DRA/CAP.LOG/>>
I can't say as I found the command chair of the Hammer
as comfortable as the pilot's seat on the Wild Fire, however, I will
have to grow into it.
She's a fine ship, and I think the crew will turn out
well. All in all the training exercise we conducted with the Alliance
went reasonably well. For a first time crew, we survived; though I have
my doubts we would have retained our cover. Our Alliance liaison, Major
Sax, has a chip on his shoulder the size of the Death Star. Always critical,
and not in a constructive manner, either. I will make every effort to
make him a part of this crew; in a venture such as this we can ill afford
any serious friction, especially on the bridge.
Speaking of the bridge, I was pleased with the work
of Lt. Commander Barakumen. He quickly recognised that the command style,
which works with a team such as the Nova Dragons, is not appropriate
in a vessel of this size. He'll keep me on my toes.
I hope we can find the time for some more training as
a Customs vessel, I know I'm not comfortable with the required procedures
as yet, I can see the apprehension, I can FEEL the apprehension (the
Force is truly double edged), emanating from the Nova Dragons. Odd,
the new crew seems harder to sense, I assume that is down to my lack
of knowledge of them. I wonder if at some future time when, perhaps,
my understanding of the Force has grown I will sense their hopes and
fears more clearly. Will that knowledge make me a better or a worse
leader?
I know the course I have plotted for the Nova Dragons
and this new crew is the right one, it feels right. Finally we are working
towards a higher purpose. I wish Syl could be here to share it with
us. Grat too, even if it would cost our finances dearly in replacing
the maintenance droids! Still, their new role, on detached duty from
the main body of the unit, will enhance our ability to function. An
army might well march on its stomach, but good intelligence is the only
way you can keep it alive in the long run.
