AT-RT

Kuat Drive Yards' All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport, more commonly know as the AT-RT, first came into service with the Republic during the height of the Clone War. As its name suggests, the AT-RT's primary functions are reconnaissance and picket duty, although they have seen action in several pitched battles, most notably the Battle of Kashyyyk.

At 3.2m in height, the single man AT-RT is a bipedal walker with long bird like legs and an open cockpit section. Its powerful drive system coupled with an advanced gyro gives the AT-RT surprising stability and balance, allowing it to achieve a top speed of 120 km/h. Armed with only a repeating blaster, the AT-RT is a devastating anti-infantry unit, but poses little threat to armoured vehicles.

With the end of the Clone Wars and the subsequent development of the AT-ST, the AT-RT was slowly phased out from frontline duty with many of them being sold off to planetary defence and police forces. The remaining Imperial AT-RTs can be found in service on numerous backwater planets or on planets where Repulsorlift vehicles cannot be used. In the case of the latter, the AT-RT is usually used instead of the Nightfalcon speeder bike.
