Astrography

The Elrood sector, while remote, is nonetheless a region of limitless activity and intrigue. There are at least fifteen worlds capable of sustaining life here, ranging from isolated, backwater outposts to urban centres that could rival some of the worlds nearer the core. Here, then, is your guide to getting around the planets of Elrood sector...

Sector Astrogation

Presented on the right is a starmap of Elrood sector, detailing all the worlds known at this time. Clicking on a world will connect you to the appropriate data entry (more entries will be added over time!).

Also included here is a gazetteer for the sector, providing travel times and astrogation difficulties for all the member worlds. The times listed are based on a standard x1 hyperdrive, and can be altered (along with the astrogation difficulties) based on the modifiers listed on page 118 of The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, Second Edition - Revised and Expanded.

Of course, stellar navigators always have the choice of plotting shorter, easier jumps to planets en route to their final destination. This lowers the difficulties, but will also cause more wear on their vessel's hyperdrives, bringing the ship a few more jumps closer to an expensive hyperdrive maintenance overhaul. Navigators and captains can decide what's best - though they shouldn't forget that Elrood sector is not without its capable starship mechanics, as well.

Bodrin

Bodrin is one of those worlds where its 'backwater' status is what actually makes it so enjoyable. The planet is peppered with peaceful, friendly communities, where everyone knows everyone's name, and people invariably look one another in the eye. Bodrin's citizens exude an air of simple, hardworking dignity, and take a dim view toward those individuals they would describe as not 'working for a living'.

Visitors to Bodrin are almost always charmed by the laid-back feeling in the small towns, but the charm doesn't last very long - in short order, these same visitors tend to become restless and bored, once again leaving the little world behind.

Dega

Long ago, Dega had been a world of at least a few resources, the most important of which being large deposits of ores and minerals beneath its rocky surface. The planet was seized by Radell Mining, and became the cornerstone of that company’s operations. But by the time Dega’s resources ran dry, the world had become so heavily polluted with chemical wastes and industrial byproducts that it was deemed no longer fit for animal life. The corporate heads at Radell have since commissioned and approved safer, cleaner ways to reap a world's resources, but the damage has already been done – Dega is now nothing more than a sick, dying world, upon whose surface nothing but the most hardy of gnarled weeds continue to survive.

The original entries on Dega can be found on page 107 of The Star Wars Planets Collection, and page 18 of Star Wars: Operation Elrood by West End Games.

Degan Gas Clouds

The Degan Gas Clouds, stunningly beautiful to look at, lie clustered near the planet Dega, and stretch outward toward Kidron and Osirrag. The established routes between these planets have made travel through the clouds unnecessary, and yet the tales of pilots who once ventured into the stellar phenomenon remain to this day. These stories vary from spacer to spacer (and from telling to telling), but all seem to share the common theme of a phantom 'otherworldly intelligence' dwelling in the region. Most spacers who hear the stories laugh at the idea, but this doesn't change the fact that no one has ever ventured into the clouds on purpose.

Korad

The 'Eyesore of Elrood Sector', Korad is one of those planets that just never had a fighting chance. Once purchased by a now-defunct salvage company, the unfortunate world was used as a dumping ground for all manner of wrecked starships, vehicles, components, and other miscellaneous debris. The planet was abandoned when that ancient company went bankrupt, and no other organization has taken an interest in (or responsibility for) the battered world ever since.

Korad is literally covered in wrecked, useless ships and machinery, and its surface and atmosphere are poisoned by the fuels and fluids that once propelled them. Seen from space, the planet is a jumble of unnatural colours; and looking up from its hazardous surface, the sky appears an unnerving, sickly green. A breath mask is required by any being visiting Korad.

In orbit around Korad is a ring of ruined starships, which have been circling the planet for centuries. The garbage ring can pose a fairly serious navigational hazard, and makes for a formidable obstacle course. Certainly, more than one nefarious individual has used the ring to shake a pursuing bounty hunter or law enforcement agent.

The original entries for Korad are found on page 108 of The Star Wars Planets Collection and page 19 of Operation: Elrood by West End Games.

Lanthrym

The frozen wasteland of Lanthrym, inhospitable to most species, could nonetheless be preferable to the settlements beneath its wind-beaten surface. Since a major political slight that took place centuries ago, The people of Lanthrym have been bitter and resentful of the rest of the sector. The planet's government was gradually overtaken by organized criminals, and the few cities are now quietly run by assorted mobs and syndicates. Today, Lanthrym's subterranean ports like Capital City are well known around the sector by those who make their living on the wrong side of the law.
