Locations

Of all the countless places to go in Elrood Sector, a few have become notable in the history of the Freespirit's crew. From the largest urban centre to the smallest corner of uncharted wilderness, here are some of the places where Itar, Avery and Resh have come face to face with adventure...

Almar Upside

Orbiting the jungle world of Almar, Almar Upside is the one truly independent space station in Elrood sector. A popular stopping point among freighter crews and visitors to the planet below, the station is always bustling with activity, and there can usually be found here a good selection of peoples from all the sector's member worlds.

Constantly undergoing repairs, expansions, and modifications, as much as forty percent of the station can be closed off to the public at any given time. Much of this inconvenience is alleviated by the use of bounce shuttles, which can be seen constantly criss-crossing the surface of the station.

Bent

So named for its having been settled around a sharp bend in the Leproro river, Bent is typical of the numerous small towns dotting the largest continent on Bodrin. It is a peaceful town, whose citizens work hard, respect their neighbours, and are never too busy to say hello. The tight-knit nature of this community is largely due to the town's being dominated by one industry, in this case the numerous bodrite quarries owned by the Elrood Quarry Corporation.

Capital City

The largest metropolitan centre on Lanthrym, Capital City has the esteemed honour of being the roughest, ugliest city on the planet. Built underground, the once beautiful city has fallen into disrepair due to a lack of anyone with any ambition wanting to take charge of it.

In the old days, visitors used to come from all over the sector just to witness Capital City's spectacular artificial sunsets and sunrises, projected through a giant, translucent dome which concealed millions of coloured spotlights across the entire length of the city. This was a thriving, vibrant community, and looked to become one of the great jewels in the crown of Elrood sector.

Then, when Lanthrym lost out to the planet Coyn in becoming the 'Gateway to Elrood sector', the world was suddenly reduced to 'backwater' status, and the more upwardly minded administrators left Capital City for greater opportunities. Now, centuries later, the long-term civic and economic effects of this age-old slight are clearly evident. The moral fibre of the populace has rotted from within, and crime runs rampant. The great sky dome over the city, after falling into a horrible state of disrepair, was finally taken down, leaving thousands of naked, coloured spotlights to feebly illuminate the smelly, smoky town. Capital City is a town of bitter, surly people, and visitors to the world (particularly those from the planet Coyn) should not expect a warm welcome.

Deadsville

The region now known as Deadsville lies a few miles from Capital City, resting underground like a hidden shame. Years ago, when the planet Lanthrym had competed with the neighboring planet Coyn for the coveted honour of being the 'Gateway to Elrood Sector', the planet's administrators had seen fit to construct an entire tourist town to attract the millions of visitors they expected to receive, calling it 'Vacationville'.

When the esteemed title was eventually bestowed upon the world of the Coynites, Lanthrym and its people were outraged, offended and, most importantly, riddled with debt. One by one, the honest and ambitious city leaders left for other worlds, leaving a vacancy soon to be filled by an assortment of unscrupulous, self-serving opportunists and gangsters. The standard of living fell dramatically, mirrored by the rise of crime in Capital City. 'Vacationville', with all its untried stores, hotels and amusements was mothballed, and came to be known as 'Deadsville', a bitter joke among the work crews who had laboured so long to build it. And so it remained, a dark, abandoned ghost town lying like a hidden tomb under Lanthrym's hard, cold surface.

The ghost-town has become home to two groups of new arrivals, however. There is evidence that an unknown number of wampas have found their way down to Deadsville. Secondly, the infamous pirate Dorok Zalaster and his cronies have set up camp here - only time will tell which tribe will prove the more ferocious.

Lockjaw's

Lying in the heart of Capital City, Lockjaw's has honestly earned its reputation as one of the roughest bars in the sector. Open all hours of the night and day for passing freighter crews, the action never stops at Lockjaw's. Due to the hours, the clientele here can be trusted to be drunk and rowdy at any time of day.

This bar is a great place to catch wind of illegal activities in the sector, but visitors would be wise to exercise caution - it's also a great place to have one's bones broken.

Rocket Rental

One of the few truly honest businesses in Capital City, the vehicle hiring outlet Rocket Rental has enjoyed solid business and a good reputation for over eighty years. Inherited from his father, Ren Sr., the business is now run by one 'Rocket' Ren Duggas.

The facility's main business is in airspeeders, commonly used to get around the sky lanes of the covered city. Capital City is a town where pedestrians passing through bad areas can quickly come to a bad end, and private air transportation is coveted by most visitors to the area. For transport on Lanthrym's barren, icy surface, Ren recommends the Snowhopper, though he does hire out some simpler tracked vehicles as well, for the faint of heart. Here are rental costs for just some of the more common vehicles that can be found at Rocket Rental:

'Rocket' Ren Duggas himself is a likeable, if no-nonsense fellow, well-known throughout Capital City for giving friendly customers a square deal. Unfriendly customers (of which the man sees plenty) will find any attempt at intimidating Ren to be unadvised - he and his team of techs, wrenches swinging, have had to subdue such bad customers on more than one occasion.

The Wayward Bantha

The Wayward Bantha is a bar on the planet Kidron, in the High City of Refuge. As is well known, Refuge is a city whose population is comprised almost entirely of renegades, refugees, wanted criminals, and other desperate people. The Wayward Bantha, accordingly, is the place where all of these people come to drink.

The bar itself is large and primitive, feeling more like an industrial age tavern than a modern spaceport cantina. A circular bar occupies the centre of the tall, round room, and is surrounded by dozens of cheap, wooden tables, the tops of which are covered with initials and rude slogans, carved there by the Wayward Bantha's uncultured clientele. The walls of the bar sport deep booths stacked one atop the other like a honeycomb, rising about three stories up, each one containing a pane-less window. Numerous ladders lead to the upper booths, and many a drunken ruffian has fallen off of them, to the delight of the Bantha's patrons. Service to the booths is provided by repulsorlift serving droids, while the ground tables are looked after by the organic serving staff (the upper booths are popular for their seclusion, but make up for it in the fact that one has to deal with the annoying serving droids).

The Wayward Bantha is a rough place, but the atmosphere here is usually one of celebration, since most everyone here is living on borrowed time, anyway. This bar is the perfect place for anyone to blow off steam and have a good time, provided he doesn't cause any serious trouble. If he does, he'll likely be stomped.
